Album Review: Nine Inch Nails – Pretty Hate Machine

Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine

If I had to illustrate what it might have been like to be in an alternative club in 1989 then this is the album I would select to help make that point. Pretty Hate Machine is a great example of the energy and unique sound of the time period. A club staple through the early 90s, the thundering bass on “Down In It” definitely pushed the limits of sound systems and was an instant dance hit. This album is still one of my all time favorites from beginning to end with my most enjoyed tracks being “Kind I Want To” and “That’s What I Get” getting multiple repeat plays. This is a must-have for any collections and exemplifies an amazing debut by Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails.
