Dark gothic rockers Still Patient? from Worms, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany have released their new album Shape Shifters on Pronoize – Dark Dimensions.
Back to the roots with new ideas, new inspiration and a modernized sound! That’s one way you could describe the new album Shape Shifters by Still Patient? in just a few words. But there’s much more to it than that. Breaking the silence after 14 years with the 2014 EP release, Still Patient? are now back with their first full-length album, harkening back strongly to the traditional musical beginnings of the band, all the while rejuvenating it with a modern production. 10 powerful, melodic and danceable songs, mixed with atmospheric sounds, merged with the unique style of Still Patient? make Shape Shifters a future milestone of the Dark Rock genre . In addition, the album also features the 2012 re-recorded version of the classic track “Mascara Osiris,” which has only been released on a compilation so far.
Their music is the modern mutation of classic Gothic Rock , without the usual clichés, individualistic guitar melodies , a crude wall of sound , driving rhythms and a dark ardent voice; a mixture of traditional guitar New Wave and modern EBM.
The band has released four albums and an EP between 1992 and 1999. The band was one of considerable representatives of the Second Wave of Gothic Rock in the 90s. Still Patient? disbanded 1999 and the members became active in other musical genres. After the re-recording of the song “Mascara Osiris” in 2012 for a compilation some of the original members teamed up with new musicians to reactivate Still Patient? and in 2014 the EP Selective Perception was released. Now after 16 years the first full length album Shape Shifters has been released.
The album provides an excellent blend of dark guitars and vocals and gets off to a very strong start with “Seconds of Fame” and the title track “Shape Shifters.” The melodies and tempo weave in and out throughout this album with the rhythm picking up and driving “Devils Bride” and “After Sundown.” Overall this is a great dark atmospheric album that captures the essence of the Gothic Rock sound. It has all the right elements in place to make a strong impact for the return of Still Patient? in 2015.
